Marina Hat

This is a super simple hat that will show off the yarns you choose. From the breezy shoreline inland, it’s the perfect hat to throw in a bag or coat pocket to have nearby. Wear a little slouchy, or take up slack in the rolled brim for a snug fit. Enjoy!

Knitted Cast On Video

The Knitted Cast On is a super easy cast on for beginners or for teaching someone to knit. It doesn't require figuring out a tail length, like the long tail cast on and is a great one to add to your repertoire of cast ons since you can use it when you need to add stitches to a work in progress.

Enjoy and Happy Knitting.

"Knitting I-cord Edges" video

Here's how to knit i-cord edges on your project while you are knitting. This is a great edge if you need a firmer edge like on a blanket or where you don't need much stretch, like a scarf. (Also known as Triple Selvedge.) Directions are also in video below.

+6 stitches RS (first 3 sts): sl1 wyib, sl1 wyif, K1 RS (last 3 sts): K1, sl1 wyif, P1 WS (first 3 sts): sl1 wyib, K1, sl1 wyif WS (last 3 sts): sl1 wyif, K1, P1 Repeat these two rows for the i cord edge. Happy Knitting.

Multicolored Yarns Explained

Video: Multicolored Yarns Explained

Sometimes we buy a colorful yarn that looks great on the skein or hank and then don't like how it knitted up. Here's a short video that discusses the different kinds of multicolored yarns, what affects the appearance when knitting, the "pooling" phenomenon, and tricks to prevent it from occurring.

How to knit the Diamond Honeycomb Stitch Pattern

Video: Knitting the Diamond Honeycomb Stitch Pattern

Here's a Youtube video for the directions on how to slip stitches with yarn in front, with yarn in back and the maneuver called "knit under the loose strands." This stitch looks impressive, but also is easy enough for beginners.

A pattern for a baby blanket using this stitch will be coming soon to the blog.

2 Methods for Knitting in Yarn Tails

Instead of having yarn tails to weave in at the end of your knitting project, here are two methods to weave them in while you are knitting. This works when adding another skein, when you are changing colors and even works when you are knitting in the round.

Twist Stitch Technique Video

There are many beautiful twist stitch patterns that resemble cable techniques but are simpler to knit since you don't need a cable needle.

It's simply knitting 2 or more stitches our of order to produce either a left or right twist stitch.
Because you are twisting the stitches, the knitted fabric will draw in horizontally, just like cabling. Be sure to check your gauge.

This video shows you how simple this technique is to knit. Happy Knitting!

Suspended Scallop Cast On

This cast-on produces a beautiful edge to your work which is a refreshing change from Garter, Seed or Rib Stitch. It’s a six row cast-on and then you can proceed with your pattern (shown above with Stockinette stitch). There is only one row that involves turning and paying attention and I have divided it into sections and added stitch markers so you can keep track while completing the row.

Abbreviations

CO - Cast On
double wrap – wrap working yarn around needle twice before knitting the st.
K – Knit
KCO – cast on using Knitted Cast On method
LHN – left hand needle
P – Purl
pm – place marker
P7tog – Purl 7 sts together
R - Row
Rd - Round
RHN – right hand needle

sl 1 – slip stitch
sl 1 wyib – slip stitch with yarn in back
sl 1 wyif – slip stitch with yarn in front
sm – slip marker
st/s – stitch/es
WS – wrong side of work

Notes

  • If you have done short rows or knitted bobbles where there is turning back and forth in a row, you can certainly leave out the stitch markers. They are there to help keep track of row 4 and are optional.
  • Mark the right side of your work after row 1 with a split marker.
  • Changing instructions for in-the-round involves more than changing the multiple, Knits to Purls and visa versa. I will publish these instructions when they are completed and tested.
